The Mennonite Financial difference
At Mennonite Financial, two important principles come together into a unique combination:
- people helping people: the philosophy that began and continues to shape the credit union movement;
- mutual aid and community: values that have been the heart of Anabaptism since its beginnings in the 16th century.
Putting values into practice
Mennonite Financial is not just another bank or financial institution. Instead, we work hard to find ways to help our members put their values into practice: mutual aid, community, people helping people. We have developed several unique ways to make this happen.

Mennonite Financial officially began on October 1, 2000. On that date a new credit union grew out of a merger of the Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Illinois Mennonite Federal Credit Unions.
Pennsylvania Mennonite FCU
First known as Mennonite Scottdale FCU, this credit union was chartered in 1955 to serve employees of the Mennonite Publishing House and members of the Mennonite congregations in Scottdale, Pa. In 1983, the credit union's charter was amended to include all Mennonites in the state of Pennsylvania. The same year it opened its first branch in Lancaster, Pa., which became the headquarters for the credit union in 1998.
Ohio & Illinois Mennonite FCUs
Ohio Mennonite Federal Credit Union received its charter to serve all Mennonites in Ohio in 1985. Four years later, Illinois Mennonite Federal Credit Union was founded to serve Mennonites in that state. Ohio Mennonite FCU operated out of an office in Kidron since its beginning. Illinois' operations were based in Evanston.
Mennonite Financial FCU
When Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Illinois merged in 2000, the new credit union took the name Mennonite Financial. Three years later in 2003, it received a charter change from the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) making it possible to serve Mennonites, Amish, Brethren in Christ, and related Anabaptist groups across the United States.
The mission of Mennonite Financial Federal Credit Union is to provide full financial services to our members with commitment to Anabaptist values, mutual aid, integrity, efficiency, and innovation.
